If you’ve never had counselling before, the not-knowing can be the hardest part. So let me take the mystery out of it.

Reaching out is often the biggest step anyone takes — and if you’re reading this, you may already have taken it in your mind. Here’s exactly how it works when you come to me, so you know what to expect before you ever pick up the phone.

It starts with a chat, not a commitment

Everything begins with a free, no-obligation 20-minute call. There’s no cost, no form to fill in first, and no pressure to book anything. It’s simply a chance for us to talk, for you to get a feel for me, and for us both to sense whether we’re a good fit. If I’m not the right person to help, I’ll say so and point you somewhere that is.

Your first session — what actually happens

The first session is really just a conversation. There’s no couch, no clipboard, and no expectation that you’ll have it all worked out. Usually we’ll talk a little about what’s brought you here, what you’re hoping for, and how you’d like things to feel. You’re in charge of how much you share — some people arrive with a lot to say, others aren’t sure where to begin. Both are completely fine.

I’ll also explain how confidentiality works, so you know that what you say stays between us, within the clear professional and legal limits I’ll always be upfront about.

You set the pace

There’s no “right way” to do counselling and no timetable you have to keep to. Some people come for a few sessions to work through something specific; others stay longer as they explore more. We’ll find a rhythm that suits you, and you’re free to pause or stop whenever feels right.

How to prepare

Honestly? You don’t need to. You don’t have to rehearse what to say or bring anything with you. Just come as you are. My whole approach is built on deep empathy, active listening and zero judgement — my job is to make the space feel safe enough that the words come on their own.

Whenever you’re ready, I’d be glad to hear from you.
